Former Urban League Head Passes Away

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― A local civil rights leader who headed the Urban League of Pittsburgh has died.

Arthur Edmunds died from complications from cancer.

He is credited for calling an end to violence in the 1960's and was an advocate for fairness in employment and health services.

Family and friends reflected on the impact he made in civil rights.

"In a sense, his view of how to increase our march, move up the pace of our march of freedom was the same view as the Urban League," Wendell Freeland, a civil rights activist, said.

Edmunds was 86 years old.
