Area Cable Company Probes Signal Problem

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―

On the heels of yesterday's Steelers loss to the Patriots, the Monday morning quarterbacking is underway; but it's not just Coach Tomlin and his team trying to figure out what went wrong during the game.

A local cable company has been trying to pinpoint the source of problems that some of its customers experienced as they watched the game.

Armstrong Cable apparently had an equipment problem, which affected KDKA-TV's signal during the game – leaving a number of customers staring at a blank screen.

Though no other cable systems, our on-air signal, or satellite providers were affected, the problem took KDKA off the air for Armstrong Cable customers for much of the first-half of the game.

In a statement released today, the cable company now says "equipment failure at the central facility in Zelienople" is to blame for the outage that occurred at 4:40pm.

The company says the outage, which affected about one-third of its channel line-up, lasted about an hour.

All the channels were restored after a technician managed to re-set the equipment that had failed.
