ARLINGTON HEIGHTS (KDKA) ― Police are investigating a South Side shooting that left an 18-year-old man dead late Friday evening.

According to police, the shooting occurred around 9:45 p.m. in the 3100 block of Cordell Place.

Police arrived on the scene and found Martez Ward, of Carrick, lying face down in the street. He was unconscious and bleeding and was transported to Mercy Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:27 p.m.

Witnesses say a possible suspect was wearing all dark clothing and was seen running from the scene. Moments later, witnesses saw a red Chevrolet Equinox come from behind the building where the shooting occurred and take off at a high rate of speed. The vehicle lost a hubcap in the process.
