An intense search is underway in Beaver County for an elderly cancer patient who left his home early this morning without the medical equipment he needs; and officials are hoping for the best.
Police are asking for help finding Jack Longo, 71, who was last seen at his home along Lenz Avenue in Ambridge around 3:15am.
His sister, who reported him missing, told police that she thought he was getting the newspaper but Longo never came back inside.
Since he was reported missing, search crews have been combing the area with bloodhounds on the ground and boats on the Ohio River.
So far, though, there has been no sign of the retired steelworker.
Though Longo is supposed to be on oxygen at all times, authorities say he left home without his oxygen tank or the medication that he needs.
Given the sub-freezing temperatures and Longo's medical problems, crews are racing against the clock to find him.
"A healthy individual would have a problem being out this time period," Ambridge Police Officer Jim Mann told KDKA. "Hopefully something will turn up," Officer Mann added. "Hopefully the outcome will be favorable."
Longo is about 6' tall, 208 pounds with brown eyes and gray hair. He was last seen wearing a brown jacket, white sweatshirt and brown pants.
Family members say Longo suffers from health problems and has been depressed. They're worried for his safety.
Anyone with information is urged to call Beaver County 911.
