PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Allegheny County has a plan to fight foreclosure.

Sheriff Bill Mullen, along with representatives from county council, met with members of the group ACORN at a foreclosure rally in Lawrenceville and outlined the plan to halt some of the sheriff's sales and bring banks to the table.

"We'll have referees there who will be lawyers who will be doing this pro bono," Mullen said. "There will be some that will have power to be able to settle the dispute. There will also be resources there to try to get you a mortgage to try to lower your mortgage rate so that you can afford your homes."

Acorn will continue to lobby lawmakers and educate borrowers so families can keep their homes.

The plan is still in its early stages and there's still a lot to be hammered out on the judicial level.
