Man Rescues Teen From Aliquippa House Fire

ALIQUIPPA (KDKA) ― An Aliquippa man is being hailed as a hero by one family today after officials say he ran into a burning home to help a young woman escape the intense flames.

The fire broke out at a home on Jones Street late on Friday around 11 p.m.

According to the Beaver County Times Online, Dwight Moore was getting ready to go out that night when he heard a commotion outside. He ran to see what was going on and that's when he saw the intense fire at a neighboring home.

Moore says he ran into the home when he discovered his neighbor, Kara Freeman, was still inside asleep from her mother. He went to her room, woke her up and the two were able to escape, the Beaver County Times Online reports.

Officials say Moore was unhurt in the ordeal, but had to be given oxygen. He said he had to run to the upper floors of home for air while trying to get out because he couldn't breathe, the Times Online reports.

Authorities say the fire spread to other parts of the home from the kitchen.

"There was some grease on the stove that burned up the kitchen pretty good," said Aliquippa Fire Chief Dave Foringer. "Then, it extended up through a pipe chase, up through the roof of the second floor, did some damage to all three floors of the structure."

The home sustained heavy damage in the blaze.
