Aliquippa Student Left On School Bus

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Parents of a little girl in Aliquippa want answers after their 5-year-old daughter was left alone on a parked school bus.

Ty-onie Leonard fell asleep on her ride to kindergarten at Aliquippa Elementary one day last week.

"I was sleeping on the bus, and I waked up, and I was crying," Ty-onie said.

"She said, 'Mommy, I knocked on the door. I was banging on the door. I could not breathe. My stomach hurt,'" her mom Ebony said.

The girl was found only after her mom happened to call the school to ask her daughter a question and she was told her daughter wasn't there.

The transportation director for the district says drivers are trained to check the buses at the end of runs. He says this driver has been disciplined, and that the bus, which is new, will be equipped with an alarm that requires drivers to walk to the back of the bus. The district's other buses already have that alarm.
