Speed A Factor In Hempfield Township Porch Crash

ADAMSBURG (KDKA) ― State police are investigating what caused a Mount Pleasant woman to go on a wild ride through a Hempfield Township neighborhood.

The accident happened around 10 p.m. last night on Wendel Road.

Police say 25-year old Traci Jo Pletcher was speeding around a curve when she hit a fire hydrant, knocking it out of the ground and causing it to torpedo into an 88-year-old woman's garage.

The woman's daughter says the fire hydrant bounced in the driveway before going through the garage door. It remains inside a day after the crash.

Pletcher then hit a mail box and two more houses before hitting a utility pole. Police say a falling transformer missed her car by just inches.

The entire front porch was torn off of one house. Structural damage was done to another house where three young children were sleeping inside.

No one in any of the homes was injured.

Pletcher was rushed to the hospital. Police say she was injured, but remains in stable condition.

Police are investigating whether drugs or alcohol could have played a role in the crash.
