Canonsburg Student's Death A Mystery

CANONSBURG (KDKA) ― A Washington County family is heartbroken after a 13-year-old girl died and there's still no explaination why.

Aaleigha Young, a student at Canonsburg Middle School, collapsed last month after she won a relay race during gym class.

Young passed away on Monday. Her family removed life support. 

Her cousin, Alyssia Moss, remembers Aaleigha's kindness.

"She was really nice, she'd do things for other people and she was always active and talkative and she was into everything," she said.

The district is saddened by her death.

"It certainly is a shock for all of us," Superintendent Dr. Nick Bayat said. "Not only for the school and the children and the teachers but also for the community."

Aaleigha's family was in McDonald making funeral arrangements. Her funeral is Friday.
