Sources: Meadows Casino Makes Cuts To Workforce

NORTH STRABANE TWP. (KDKA) ― The KDKA investigators have learned that The Meadows Casino is cutting back its workforce.

Casino officials say there has been a drop in revenue.

"We used to go to Atlantic City – different other places too," says one woman. "People can't travel now because they don't have the money."

Data indicates revenue is down at The Meadows by a million dollars each week – sometimes more.

As a result, sources indicate The Meadows has laid off about 100 full and part-time employees.

Meantime, the casino predicts a surge in new employment if Pennsylvania gets table games anytime soon, predicting 700 new employees with the addition of 65 gaming tables.

Until that happens, the employees will remain laid off and the high rollers are laying low.

"You don't want to spend all your money here. You could be using it for food or for paying other bills," one man said. "So we come here for a few hours, spend a few dollars and it's entertainment – just like going to a movie or to a ball game."

The Meadows is generating about $5 million in revenue per week with 3,700 machines.

When it was a temporary facility, it was still generating about $5 million a week with about half as many machines.
