Former Orie Campaign Aide Speaks Out

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― A former aide to State Sen. Jane Orie, R-McCandless, is speaking out about her old boss.

This comes just weeks after authorities raided Orie's district office in McCandless.

Louise Bradley worked as a campaign aide to Orie more than a decade ago. She says she had absolutely no knowledge regarding recent allegations about State Sen. Orie.

However, she did talk with investigators with the district attorney's office for nearly two hours Monday.  She says she told them in great detail about alleged political dirty tricks ordered by the Ories in the late 1990's.

"Like what sort of things I was involved in, what sort of things they were involved in as far as making phone calls to harass people which I was not involved in, stealing campaign signs which we all did at the time," Bradley said.

"That's part of campaigns all the time although it's not something I'm proud of or happy about doing," she continued. "Her signs were being stolen so Jane thought we should steal his signs as well and Joan also. I rode with the judge at the time to take down a sign that she did not want up at St. Alexis church."

Attorneys for Orie contend this is nothing but a political witch hunt. They point out the search conducted by the FBI at the offices of then-coroner Dr. Cyril Wecht more than three years ago. Much of the evidence was thrown out in a federal case against Wecht.

Orie attorneys say the district attorney's office conducted what they call an "illegal search" at Orie's office recently.

Investigators are allegedly trying to prove Orie used her staff to illegally campaign for her sister, Judge Joan Orie Melvin.

"It's the way they are, it's the way they operate," Bradley said. "They stop at nothing to get elected."

Attorneys for Jane Orie contend Louise Bradley is seeking her 15 minutes of fame by attacking Orie.

They suggest Bradley has supported Orie as recently as 2003, saying they have an e-mail from her asking Jane if she needed any help campaigning.

They also say they have a significant amount of information to prove she was on Orie's side until a few years ago.

However, there is no comment from the district attorney's office on the investigation.
