PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― School is back in session and as high school football teams across the region get set to tackle their opponents, we're teaming up with Pizza Hut and the Steelers to help recognize the stars of the gridiron.

Each week after the game, KDKA's Bob Pompeani and the rest of the KDKA Sports Team will nominate three top players – and you can help us name the Pizza Hut High School Player of the Week!


How Are The Players Picked?
The KDKA Sports Team will select three high school football players each week based on a subjective criteria of: 
  • Overall player statistics
  • Game-breaking plays, and
  • Relevance to rankings and playoffs.

How Can I Help Pick the Player of the Week?
KDKA viewers and visitors to KDKA.com can then weigh in on which of the three nominees should win each week online or via text message!

Once the KDKA Sports Team announces the 3 Player of the Week nominees on the Monday following each game, you can cast your ballot at  KDKA.com/HSFootball. 

You can also vote for one of the three top performers by texting either "POW1" for Player 1, "POW2" for Player 2, or "POW3" for Player 3 to "WHALE" (94253).  Standard Message Rates will apply with all text message voting. 

The voting period will be open from Monday until midnight on Thursday.

All viewers who vote will even receive a special offer from Pizza Hut!


What Does The Winner Get?
Each Pizza Hut Player of the Week winner will receive a team pizza party provided by Pizza Hut and will be recognized at the final home game of the year December 27th versus the Baltimore Ravens.

One lucky player will be chosen as the Pizza Hut High School Player of the Year and receive a $1,500 donation to that athlete's athletic department from Pizza Hut!
