City Opener Features Championship Rematch

KDKA Sports Intern Sergei J. Feldman
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The Friday night lights of George C. Cupples Stadium will shine on more than a simple season opener—they'll shine on a City League championship rematch between Brashear and Perry High Schools — two of the City League's more successful powerhouses.

Last November Brashear exited off the field in a state of celebration, as it defeated Perry, 26-20.

Brashear's dominance over Perry in recent years almost met its end in the championship game, however.

Catching the Bulls off-guard, Perry jumped out to an early 13-0 lead and walked into halftime leading 13-6.

Brashear got its game together and put a halt to Perry's hopes.

Tonight, Perry will seek revenge while Brashear aims to prove its dominance was all but fluke.

Each team will bring a lethal arsenal of talent and experience.  Highlighting the bunch are Brashear quarterback Henri Chatman, running back Bruce Patterson and wide receiver Manassah Garner.

Chatman completed 108 of 184 passes and threw for 1,624 yards last season, including 18 touchdowns and just five interceptions. Patterson led the Bulls' rushing attack with 1,130 yards on 162 carries, including 14 touchdowns. Garner caught 50 balls for 702 yards and seven touchdowns and also led the team in tackles (65) and sacks (6).

Perry plans to bring its own weapons, led by quarterback Greg McGhee and running backs Aaron Patterson and Rich Lowry.

The game will begin at 7:30pm at George C. Cupples Stadium on the South Side.
