Does It Really Do That: Roll 'n Grow

(KDKA) The "Roll N Grow" promises hundreds, even thousands of flowers, with no planting but does it really do that?

KDKA's Yvonne Zanos put the "Roll 'n Grow" to the test.

The miracle garden in a box sells for $19.95 plus $8 shipping and handling.

The carpet of flowers arrives in a plain brown box.

The company claims that the unattractive green strips hold more than 1,000 seeds in each ten foot strip.

It's all held together with a fabric-like backing.

The first step is to rake and loosen the topsoil in a sunny location.

Then you have to be careful to make sure you plant the Roll 'n Grow right side up.

The green fiber side faces down and the fabric side faces up.

After that, all you have to do is water it twice a day. The instructions even say you cannot over water the Roll 'n Grow.

Twenty nine days later, we checked back in with our disappointed tester Gretchen Bennett.

"I wasn't sure I expected the hundreds they promised," said Bennett. "But I think I expected more than the few that we have."

There was some germination but just not much of it -- only a handful of seedlings out of 1,000 seeds.

"I watered them twice a day like the directions said," said Bennett.

We even had a professional test the Roll 'n Grow and even under ideal conditions it just didn't make as many flowers as it promised.
