It's hard to believe that the holiday season is just about here; but believe it or not, today kicks off the Christmas shopping
season in the downtown area as Pittsburgh celebrates Light Up Night
®!
The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership has announced its lineup for the 49th Annual Light Up Night, which is the traditional local kick-off to the holiday shopping season.
The festivities started this afternoon with the Pittsburgh Crèche Dedication Ceremony at the U.S. Steel Tower Plaza and continue on through the afternoon and evening ending with big Macy's Fireworks Finale beginning at 9:15 p.m.
Light Up Night
® and the Santa Spectacular are the official kickoff to the holiday season in downtown Pittsburgh.
While both events are happening on the same date, this year is a little bit different with two sets of fireworks and events happening all over town.
There will be bands and musical performances throughout the evening at PPG Place and Market Square and there will be children's activities at One Oxford Centre.
Plus, there will be a Zambelli fireworks display along the Allegheny River near the Warhol Bridge.
That's not all.
Point State Park will play host to a winter wonderland with the "Santa Spectacular" and another set of fireworks.
