Some Of Santa's Helpers Concerned About H1N1
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
Another group feels it is at special risk for H1N1 flu Santa's helpers who work at malls and stores.
They know they'll be in close contact with hundreds of kids in a day and that's why the Amalgamated Order of Real Bearded Santas had a swine flu seminar at a conference in Philadelphia.
For the Santa with asthma or chronic medical conditions, a vaccine makes sense.
Santas and others who work with very young children don't need any special proof to get vaccinated.
"It's hard to prove they're caregivers for someone less than age six months. It's hard to prove they're a health care worker," Dr. Bruce Dixon, of the Allegheny County Health Department, said. "So we take people at their word and hopefully people are honorable enough to realize that we don't have vaccine for everybody, and we're trying to get the people most at risk vaccinated."
Officials ask parents not to take their kids to see Santa if they have a high fever or respiratory symptoms.
