Local Armory Continues Thanksgiving Tradition

MOUNT PLEASANT (KDKA) ― Soldiers of the 1st Battalion 110th Infantry Regiment in Mount Pleasant spend the entire year serving our country, but on Thanksgiving, they're serving their community in another way.

At the Mount Pleasant Armory, retirees and current soldiers stayed up all night long making 34 turkeys and all the rest of the fixings.

The meals were for people in the community who aren't able to prepare a Thanksgiving meal for themselves.

"The community always supports us for our deployments and this is our chance to give back to the community for everything they do for us when we go fight overseas," Lt. Col. Ros Gammon, an organizer, said.

About 250 soldiers from the battalion are getting ready to be deployed to Afghanistan, but they're not letting it get in the way of their Thanksgiving tradition.

This is the 19th year soldiers have been preparing meals for people in Mount Pleasant, Scottdale and Connellsville.

About 250 meals were prepared.

And each one of them was delivered with a Thanksgiving smile and received with a big thank you.

"Usually on Thanksgiving and holidays we do things for our family and it's nice to do something for somebody else that's either less fortunate or doesn't have that time to spend with family," Chyna Stevens, a volunteer, said.
