PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― With a little help from Santa, fireworks and smiles on lots of faces, Pittsburgh got into the holiday spirit Friday night with Light Up Night.

The Santa Spectacular – always a crowd favorite – wowed kids of all ages.

New this year were two fireworks displays – the Macy's theatrical fireworks by Zambelli launched from the Warhol Bridge and a fireworks display in Point State Park.

"It's great - all the people, the energy," Walter Sakowicz, from Murrysville, said. "It's nice to see everybody smiling."

"There's lots of things to do here that's what's so nice about it," he added.

Friday afternoon was full of events.

At the US Steel Towers downtown, Bishop Zubik blessed the Christmas Creche.

"Let's pray for ourselves and the whole southwestern Pennsylvania area that the real meaning of Christmas be at the heart of all we say and do," he said.

Santa and his helpers were all over town, including Pittsburgh Claus.

"I'm Santa's cousin. He does the main holidays. I do the city of Pittsburgh. I love Pittsburgh, so I stay here and make this my home," he said.

"I got a lot of work now with the Super Bowls and Stanley Cups," he said. "I gotta work on the Pirates - gotta get them winning so they can help out."

Jolly old Saint Nick also came to Pittsburgh to celebrate.

"I love the people of Pittsburgh because you celebrate the holidays so well and the children of Pittsburgh have been so good this year. They have nothing to worry about," Santa Claus said.
