Colorado Woman Says Dog Sniffed Out Her Cancer
DENVER, Colorado (KDKA) ―
For nearly 20 years, there have been studies about a dog's ability to sniff out cancer in human beings.
A woman in Denver, Colorado is now a believer.
Heidi Robertson says her 150-pound Newfoundland is the reason why she's now being treated for breast cancer.
Robertson says she owes a lot to her dog, Tess.
"My dog would come up to me and she would just sniff me around my chest area and he would push her nose into my right breast," Robertson said.
Robertson says she tried to ignore Tess at first, but the dog persisted.
"She would be very insistent like 'mom do something,'" Robertson said. "Alarm bells went off inside of me. I knew then something is going to happen."
Robertson went to see her doctor. She discovered a lump in her right breast.
Robertson says there is no family history of cancer and that she hasn't had a mammogram in nine years. She thinks Tess is a lifesaver.
"I knew it because Tess told me," Robertson said. "She left me know something is wrong and thank God we caught it early."
