Clinics Begin Offering Flu Shots
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
With the Fall comes the flu season and with the flu season is right around the corner, some places are doing what they can to make sure everyone is as healthy as they can be.
At Saint Barnabus Medical Center, workers are ready for the flu season.
In fact, the center is providing flu shots and it has been providing the service for more than 30 years.
"Patients are just happy that we have the flu vaccine ready and that we're giving it so early in the flu season. No concerns have been voiced other than the H1N1 virus in general," Becky Carr said.
The question about H1N1 has been on many people's minds over the last few months and with flu season coming, people want to know about a vaccine.
"As of now, the H1N1 virus [vaccination] is not available; but most physicians are encouraging, as well as the government, to get your immunization early for the flu, and it does not cover 100 percent of all [forms of the flu] but most [forms of the flu]," Carr said.
Many know the effects the flu can have on the body and Saint Barnabus' director of patient services says everyone should start by getting their flu shot.
"I can't stress enough, I am a nurse. I firmly believe that everybody should get their flu shot, and it will ward off -- if you did get the flu, the symptoms will be less. Just bring your insurance card, and most insurance companies will provide the vaccination," Carr said.
