Students in the Norwin School District in North Huntingdon are being given the opportunity to have the H1N1 FluMist nasal spray.
Norwin School District students, parents and faculty ages 5 to 49 arrived at the middle school auditorium in a steady stream after a major morning rush.
Pennsylvania State Health Department Coordinator Joseph Donohue saw the crowd as he drove up around 7 a.m.
"The line was down the sidewalk but they were very orderly," he said. "The administration did a great job of getting them through in the first hours they probably did over a hundred."
Norwin's board and administration applied and was chosen as a certified site to receive doses of the H1N1 nasal spray, according to Superindentent Dr. John Boylan.
"We have 2,500 and so today we hope, we expect to go through about 700 or 800 doses and then Wednesday we'll go until we run out," he said.
The vaccine is being offered free of charge. Everybody has to fill out a consent form.
Like many school districts, Norwin had been experiencing a lot of absenteeism.
"It is higher than it has been in prior years, but I think it seems like it's starting to back off now."
Many concerned parents jumped at the chance to get the vaccine.
No word on when the shot form of the H1N1 vaccine will arrive.
On Wednesday, vaccinations will be available from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. People who registered but could not make it Monday can get the vaccine on Wednesday.
Walk-ins will also be welcome, but you must register and complete a consent form before coming to the school.
