Trick-or-treating will go on as usual in a small community in Greene County where local officials had wanted to cancel the Halloween tradition and opted for a party for children instead.
Several dozen parents and concerned residents turned out for a meeting Thursday night and signed petitions in support of the trick-or-treating for two hours on Halloween night.
But, two days before Halloween, the Bobtown-Dunkard Fire Department will have a party in the fire hall for several hundred local residents.
"Halloween wouldn't be Halloween without the trick-or-treating. To me, it's the fun of giving the candy to the kids," Karen Shorraw, a parent, said.
"My little girl is 12, going to be 12 in December - this will probably be her last year to trick-or-treat," Rebecca Cumston told KDKA-TV.
Terry Barzanti, the chairman of the Dunkard Township Board of Supervisors, said after the meeting that he had no problem with the trick-or-treating and party compromise.
However, he said the township will not be responsible for any damages or problems that might occur on Halloween night.
