Pittsburgh Opera Headquarters Going Green

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The Pittsburgh Opera is going green.

The organization announced plans to turn its headquarters, the former George Westinghouse air brake factory, into one of the greenest buildings in the region.

To do this, they plan to use 100 percent renewable energy to power the building. They also will recycle old wood into tables and they will rely on a lot of natural light.

If the facility receives LEED status for green buildings, officials believe it will be the oldest building to get the certification.

It could take up to two years to obtain the certification.
