High-Rise Touted As City's Tallest Green Building

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Construction work is continuing on a new high-rise in downtown Pittsburgh.

Three PNC Plaza is being touted as the city's tallest green building.

The materials used to build the high-rise come from recycled materials or are recyclable themselves.

"It means the construction waste is separated and recycled on site," said Gary Saulson, PNC Corporate Real Estate.

Officials say the green initiative does not stop once construction is finished.

"If an employee wanted to drink from a Styrofoam cup, we would not allow that in this office because it would not be part of our green posture," said Dan Taylor, the PNC Banking Regional manager.

In addition to a bank branch, the building will have a hotel as well as condos.

The condos start at half a million dollars.
