Allegheny County Jail Lights More Energy Efficient

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Some of the lighting at the Allegheny County Jail is now more energy efficient.

Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato announced the county has installed more than 800 LED lights.

The lights were put in the pod areas of the jail where lights have to stay on for 24 hours a day.

The project cost $954,000. The move is expected to save the county about $178,000 in the first year.

The lights could last as long as 25 years.
