Thanksgiving Recipes: Squash Pie

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― With Thanksgiving just days away, some people may be looking to alternatives to pumpkin pie. If you're one of those people, try out this recipe for squash pie this year.

Ingredients

2 cups of squash
1.5 cups of milk
2 eggs t
1 tsp cinnamon
¾ tsp allspice
½ ginger
1/8 cloves
½ tsp salt
3 tbs flour

Directions

Cut squash in half lengthwise scoop out pulp and seeds.

Put squash cut side down in a long baking pan with ½ cup of water.

Place in pre-heated oven at 350 for 90 minutes, don't worry, it's normal for the skin to turn black

Let cool and scoop out the flesh

Add the flesh to the food processor and puree for a couple minutes

Add that flesh to your favorite pie recipe.

Combine the pureed flesh with eggs, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, salt, allspice, flour, milk, sugar and mix in bowl or add to the food processor again.

Here's the recipe we use for our homemade crust-

Mix two cups of flour, 1 tsp salt, 1 tbs sugar, 6 tbs butter, 6 tbs shortening and 6 tbs of ice water together until it forms the right consistency to roll out for the crust.

Fill the crust with the assembled ingredients and bake at 350 degrees for about 50 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
