Pizza & Apple Pie On The Grill

(KDKA) Andy Amrhein, of Evey True Value Hardware, doesn't just have good home and garden advice... he's also a great grill master! He grills up two unlikely foods, pizza and apple pie.

Andy's Apple Pie

Crust Recipe:
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons salt
¾ cup shortening
6 – 7 tablespoons cold water

1. In bowl with fork, lightly stir together flour and salt.
2. With pastry blender or 2 knives used scissor-fashion, cut shortening until coarse crumbs.
3. Sprinkle in cold water a little at a time, cutting in with knife and hand shape into a ball.
4. Cut in 2 pieces, one for bottom crust, one for top.

Apple Pie Recipe:
¾ cup sugar
2 tablespoons all purpose flour
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 teaspoons lemon juice
Approx. 6-7 medium Macintosh apples peeled and thinly sliced
2-3 tablespoons butter or margarine
2 tablespoons milk

1. Preheat grill to 425 degrees.
2. In bowl, combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and lemon juice.
3. Place bottom crust in pan.
4. Place half sliced apples in crust with half of sugar mixture. Top with rest of apples, then rest of sugar mix.
5. Dot top of filling with butter.
6. Roll remaining dough for top crust. Place on pie, cut three slices in crust, crimp overhang, pinch and form. Glaze top with milk, not on edge or it will burn.
7. Place on grill over indirect heat. Side burners should be on, center burner off. Bake for approximately 55-60 minutes, halfway through cover edge with foil. No peeking, or you must add time.

Pizza Recipe

1 12" store-bought or homemade crust
½ cup of pizza sauce
1 cup of cheese
½ cup any toppings of your choice

1. Preheat the grill to 400 degrees.
2. Prepare your dough and let it rise, covered, for 5 minutes.
3. Roll out the dough on an oiled cookie sheet.
4. Place cookie sheet over direct heat (all burners) on the grill and cook 5 minutes.
5. Flip dough over and place sauce, cheese, and other toppings on the crust.
6. Cook 5 more minutes or until cheese has melted.
