Heinz Red Zone Recipe: Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

VIDEO:  Watch The Hines Ward Show Online

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Each week in the Heinz Red Zone on The PNC Hines Ward Show, Rania Harris puts together some great recipes that are sure to make your tailgating party a hit.

This week, she's making Slow Cooker Pulled Pork!

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork
1 pork shoulder
Salt and Pepper to taste
¼ cup water

2 bottles Jack Daniel's Honey Smokehouse Barbecue Sauce

Kaiser Rolls
1 jar of your favorite Heinz Pickles
Purchased Coleslaw

DIRECTIONS:

Warm your slow cooker for 15 minutes before placing the pork shoulder inside. Season the pork with salt and pepper and pour ¼ cup water into the slow cooker. Turn the temperature to high and cook for one hour. Reduce the temperature to low and continue to slow cook the pork for 7 – 9 hours. Check the liquid level from time to time (try not to open the lid too often, as the heat will escape and the cooking time will be longer) and add ¼ cup water, if needed.

Remove the pork from the slow cooker – it will be very tender. When cool enough to handle, shred the pork (using two forks). Remove any excess grease from the slow cooker and return the shredded pork back into the pot. Add a whole bottle (or more to taste) of Jack Daniel's Honey Smokehouse Barbecue Sauce to the pot and continue to cook on low for one hour.

To serve:
Heat the Kaiser rolls and split them. Pile the pull pork onto the roll and serve with coleslaw and Heinz Pickles and additional Jack Daniel's Honey Smokehouse Barbecue Sauce.

Serves: 10
