PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― People across the area are marking the Fourth of July with events, parades, barbeques, lots of fun and of course fireworks.

Thousands are expected downtown throughout the day for the Fourth of July celebration as the Three Rivers Regatta continues and the annual Zambelli fireworks show is set for tonight.

Before the big fireworks show, the F-1 ChampBoat Grand Prix Series is being held. The finals will start at 6 p.m.

"There's always a great crowd, which is fantastic. I like coming for that. I used to come here when I was a young kid and my dad would race here, so for me it's a lot of prestige to come back to Pittsburgh. I've been fortunate to win here a couple of times back in '95 and '96," said Tim Seebold, an F1 ChampBoat racer.

"The main thing is I like coming for the fireworks," he added. "You have a great fireworks display and I'm looking forward to it tonight.

Other events include a sailing competition, a BMX Stunt show on the Clemente Bridge, a climbing wall for visitors and more. Also, the "Red, White and Zoom" jet ski team will be back in the water.

Also, the Clemente Bridge has been closed until early Saturday morning.

There are several musical acts set to hit local stages today, too, including Soul Asylum. They will play on the South Plaza beginning at 8:00 p.m.

To cap off the night, the annual fireworks show will be staged from the Allegheny River and a laser light show has been added this year.

"It is going to be the most spectacular fireworks display they have ever put on in Pittsburgh, coupled with a laser show," said John Bonassi, the chairman of the Three Rivers Regatta. "We understand that it's never been demonstrated in the United States. This is something they've used in Singapore, Hong Kong, but it's never been done in the United States."

Here are some great spots to catch all the fireworks action:
There are the traditional spots like Point State Park, Mt. Washington, Station Square and the North Shore. You can also get a view on the Roberto Clemente and 10th Street bridges.

Here are some other places as well:
North: Fineview Park and Observatory Hill
East: The Oval, golf course and Flagstaff Hill - all in Schenley Park
