Prince William's longtime girlfriend, Kate Middleton, turns 27 today, and the media is abuzz with speculation that the prince might use the occasion to finally pop the big question.
British tabloids also seem to be waiting with bated breath for an engagement announcement, and have dubbed Middleton as "Waitie Katie." The nickname gives the impression Middleton, unemployed, is just waiting around for William to propose. As Showbiz editor Katie Nicholl explains, "It's a nickname she absolutely despises."
Kate, who is 6 months older than William, has been dating the prince for about 6 years, and their relationship has even inspired bookies to hedge bets on the couple's engagement - whenever that will be.
Bookmakers William Hill said odds for an engagement announcement sometime in 2009 have shortened from 6-4 to 1-2 in the last few weeks, reports Agence France-Presse (AFP).
William and Middleton met as students at St. Andrew's University in Scotland in 2001 and have reportedly been dating since 2003.
