Local Memorial Service Held For Michael Jackson

EAST LIBERTY (KDKA) ― There's no question Michael Jackson was an international music legend, but a memorial service for him right here in Pittsburgh?

Roland Criswell, President of Coston Funeral Home in East Liberty says it was a no brainer.

"We wanted to provide an outlet for the Pittsburgh community to celebrate Jackson's contributions to the world and pay tribute to his legacy," Criswell said.

In fact the funeral home got so many phone calls they had to schedule a second service on their North Side Location on July 10th.

"We had a group of 30 people from the West Coast that wanted to come but we were already booked. That was surprising," Criswell said.

The service Thursday night included performances by local dancers, Michael Jackson's music videos and tributes from local fans.

"I begged my mom for a Michael Jackson tattoo when I was 16," Tequiera Miller said, showing a tatoo of Michael's feet on her left bicep.

"I named my son Michael Jackson cause I loved him so much," Michele Jackson said fighting back tears.

And Michele even explained Michael Jackson's distant connection to our city.

"I went to school with relatives of his. Their last name was Roach.
They were his fourth cousins on his mother Katherine's side of the family. So he actually did have ties here, he had family here," she explained.

The service for Michael Jackson on July 10th will also be at 7 p.m. at the Coston Funeral Home at 3313 Brighton Road on the North Side.
