''Coupon Mom'' Offers Supermarket Saving Surprises
(KDKA)
Coupons are not the only way to save money at the grocery store anymore.
KDKA's Consumer Editor Yvonne Zanos and "coupon mom" Stephanie Nelson recently visited a supermarket to look at some other ways to save money.
Nelson, who runs the website
www.couponmom.com, says one way she saves it by 'stacking' her coupons, using the lowest sale price with the highest coupons in a store that doubles them.
She says that this can often result in paying just a few cents for a product or possibly getting it for free.
More Ways To Save At The Supermarket1. New Online Coupons Giant Eagle is now posting coupons online. If you have a Giant Eagle Advantage Card, you can now go to
GiantEagle.com, sign up, click on the special savings you want and they are automatically put onto your Advantage Card. And there are no coupons to carry or misplace.
2. Turn Change Into Gift Cards Using the coin counting machine costs nine cents on the dollar for the service, but if you turn those coins into a gift card instead of cash, there's no fee at all.
3. Online Photos - No Shipping Charges Another way to save money is by downloading photos to Giant Eagle's website. Customers pay fifteen cents a piece for the pictures. And customers can also forget the shipping charges because the photos can be picked up in one or two days at a local Giant Eagle store.
4. Special Events Savings & Savings Outside the Store Giant Eagle customers can also pull out their Advantage Card for savings during family trips to places like the zoo or the Children's Museum. It can take dollars off ticket prices or help save with special two for one deals.
5. Time Gift Card Buying Our expert says customers can also cash in by buying gift cards at the right time.
6. Pharmacy Savings Another way to save is by signing up for Giant Eagle Pharmacy's $4 Generics.
"What's nice about some of the grocery store pharmacies is that they will match competitor's prices," says Nelson.
7. Movie Rental for $1.00 While some Giant Eagle stores don't have this yet, some stores are offering something called, Redbox DVD Rentals, which only cost $1 a night.
