Know What To Save & What Toss After Power Loss

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― With numerous homes without power across Western Pennsylvania, many people are wondering what to keep and what to throw out from their refrigerators.

Here are items that should be thrown away after more than two hours without power:
  • Milk & cream
  • Eggs & egg dishes
  • Custards & puddings
  • Fresh or leftover meat, poultry, fish or seafood, lunch meats, hot dogs, bacon and sausage
  • Mayonnaise, tartar sauce and horseradish

Among the items you can keep are:

  • Butter or margarine
  • Hard & processed cheeses
  • Salad dressing
  • Jelly
  • Relish
  • Mustard and ketchup

Experts say when in doubt, throw it out.
