CPSC Issues Recall For Cribs, Baby Floats
(KDKA)
Officials have put out recalls today for thousands of cribs and inflatable baby floats that could pose a danger to young children.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission put out the recalls for Simplicity Cribs and baby floats by Aqua-Leisure.
If you have a Simplicity Crib, experts say you want to take your child out of it immediately. They report that ten babies have died because of defective hardware.
Officials say 400,000 of the cribs are recalled today.
"The hardware has given way and the drop side has moved out and the baby is wedged in between the crib," said Inez Tenenbaum, the chairwoman of the CPSC. "Don't use any Simplicity crib that has been recalled. The company is no longer doing daily business."
Also, four million baby floats were recalled today by Aqua-Leisure. Experts say they had 30 reports of the float seats tearing and causing babies to fall into the water.
Officials say the baby boats have been selling for the past seven years at many retailers, including Target, Toys 'R Us, Wal-Mart, Dollar General, K-Mart and Bed, Bath and Beyond for between $8 to $15.
To find out if your baby float has been recalled, you should check the valve. Officials say the recalled models will be dated between August 2002 and July 2008.
If you see the letters NP on the valve, your baby float is not one of the recalled floats. Also, not included are floats with a hard plastic seat or no leg holes at all.
If you have one of these baby floats, officials say stop using it immediately.
You can get a full refund, but you will have to send in the product valve along with the portion of the baby boat next to the valve that shows the Aqua-Leisure trademark and the copyright date.
