Master Plunger -- Does It Really Do That?
by Yvonne Zanos
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
Unclogging the toilet is among the dirtiest jobs in the house.
Now, a new product has come along that promises to clear up clogs without harsh chemicals.
So KDKA Consumer Editor Yvonne Zanos put the Master Plunger to the test to find out "does it really do that"?
The Master Plunger costs $6.
Our expert, master plumber Martin Flaherty, put the Master Plunger to the test by clogging a toilet with paper towels along with a test of a sink and bathtub.
Did it work?
"It worked in the toilet," said Flaherty. "It did not work very well in the sink or in the bathtub."
Why did the Master Plunger fail on tubs and sinks?
"When you have a sink, behind the wall, you have a waste line and you have an air vent," said Flaherty. "Naturally, when you put air in under force, it will go the least resistance -- which is up the air pipe."
However, Flaherty thinks the Master Plumber is still a good thing to have in your bathroom.
"For the cost of it, it's probably a nice handy item to have in the bathroom but it never will take the place of a plumber," said Flaherty.
He says there's no question the Master Plunger worked better than the ordinary plungers on toilets but not as well in sinks and bathtubs.
