Goodwill Moving Into Computer Business

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― If you are in the market for a new computer, you probably never thought to go to your local Goodwill Store.

Deals at the store may surprise you, as the stores are moving into the computer business.

When Gus Karalagas started looking for a computer system, he skipped all the traditional retail stores and went to a local Goodwill store.

"We priced some other stores, used ones, and I remembered this place, and I said let's go down there. So we came here. Probably better off buying it here anyway because the money is going to a worthy cause," Karalagas said.

When he got there, he discovered a great deal. A whole computer system for just $249.

Customers like Betsy Neidle love what they're getting.

"It's great. It's for my son, so that while he's in school, they're asking him to do things on the internet and on the computer three or four times a week. He has to have access to a computer so this is a way I can afford to do that," Neidle said.

CEO Michael Smith said Goodwill hopes ultimately to sell refurbished computers in all their stores.

"In the box is everything you will find that you'll need to hook up your computer. It has the keyboard, the mouse, the processor, the monitor, the instructions on how to set it up and probably most important, as I said, is an operating system. It is a Microsoft Professional XP operating system," Smith said.
