National City Transition To First Niagara Complete

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Today is the day that nearly 60 National City branches become part of First Niagara and while that switchover had an apparent bumpy start on Friday, the company says now, it's just about business as usual.

"Conversion went great over the weekend. We beat all of our deadlines as far as getting the ATMs up, web banking was up yesterday. All the branches were up yesterday, ready for business this morning. We feel really good about how things have gone so far," Frank Polino said.

"They've been sending me updates, they sent me an email today that they've been doing online training for their online banking," Carl Huelsman

Others say the change has been a little confusing.

"The hassle for me is the location. This is the closest to my house. I work in Oakdale and went to Imperial but they were closed at noon the first day they opened," Josh Lehrman said.

At the West End branch, Lehrman was one of many customers who told KDKA-TV they were caught off-guard.

However, Frank Polino, who's overseeing the process, says not to expect wholesale changes.

"Haven't changed account numbers, haven't changed bill pay providers, online banking is a different sign-on than before, so when you're on it should look pretty similar," Polino said.

Carl Huelsman gave the switch a passing grade, but he had a snag of his own over the weekend with his debit card.

"I forgot that it switched over and so I went to go buy something, I was with my brother, so he had money," Huelsman said.

Now the next step in the transition is getting all of those former National City customers who are heading to PNC in the mix. That will happen in the next few months. In the meantime, representatives from both banks says if you have any questions, check with your own branch first.
