Cracking The Codes To Online Bargains
PITTSBURGH (CBS) ―
Many people who shop online are pretty skilled at finding the lowest prices on items they want to buy; but even savvy cybershoppers may be missing out on the chance to save even more.
Most people who have bought something online at one point or another may have noticed a blank space asking for a special coupon code that could lead to bigger discounts.
What they may not realize, though, is that just because they may not see a discount on the shopping site doesn't necessarily mean no discounts are available.
"If you see when you are about to check out it says enter promotional code if any...that gives you a tip off," explains consumer expert Edgar Dworsky of
ConsumerWorld.com.
Dworsky says the secret to saving money is knowing where to go those codes. "There are sights that specialize in listing out all the codes that are available."
For example, while trying to buy a couch on Target's website, Dworsky was prompted for a promotional code.
Before completing his order, he went onto Google.com and searched for "promotional code" and "Target.com." After wading through the list of codes, the best deal he found took 10-percent of the order. Dworsky entered his code in the promotional code box and saved $76.
Another way to hunt for these codes is through websites like
CouponCabin.com or
CurrentCodes.com, which list hundreds of companies with various online promotions.
