Petcure and Pedipaws claim to do away with bleeding pet claws.
You can spend anywhere from $20 for Pedipaws as much as $59 for Peticure.
Then add another $10 or $20 for shipping and handling.
It could be a good investment if they really make it easier and safer to clip paws, but does they really do that?
Both products are dremel-like tools that claim to do the same thing and as far as we can tell, are pretty much the same product.
And if it really is safer than clipping, these products claim to put an end to that by safely filing down your pet's nails. But getting our volunteer animals to sit tight was a big problem. Right from the beginning, we figured it was a two-person job.
Hedy Krenn's dog Gizmo flat out hated it and Olive wasn't going for it either. Only laid back Sundance permitted Hedy to do the job sort of.
With six pets, Hedy says that anything that would make claw care easier would be great for her. Directions say it can take a week to get your dog used ot the sound of these trimming tools, so we left Hedy alone with her pets, Peticure and Pedipaws.
In the meantime, we traveled to Pampered Pooch in Zelienople where owner Cindy Giles showed us the Pedipaws she bought. She paid about $29 for hers but it's the platinum version.
Cindy showed us how Pedipaws works on Lulu who doesn't seem to love the experience. But Lulu isn't afraid and Pedipaws obviously isn't hurting her.
"No it [doesn't] hurt them, it just takes forever to get it off," Cindy said. "You can see that it is hardly taking anything."
That's why it's thumbs down for this professional groomer.
But what about the rest of us? We returned to Hedy's house to see how her pets have adjusted in the last week. Her husband, radio personality Jim Krenn, was called in for reinforcement.
Sundance is still OK with the process. Olive still won't have it and Gizmo's dislike for this nail filer has only grown.
We were surprised at how well the cats did. Elvis is much better but then Elvis is really easy going.
"That doesn't cause any bleeding so that's the good side of it, but boy it takes a long time to do," says Jim. "Like I said, it's probably a lot easier just to go to a salon or a vet and have it done real quick. I'd say thumbs down."
We tried them with the guard and we tried them without the guard. We really wanted them to work but the bottom line here is it takes forever. Unless you have a really, really laid back dog or cat and have lots of time on your hands this is not the product for you.
