Ped Egg: Does It Really Do That?

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The Ped Egg claims it can make your feet smooth as silk by using more than 100 precision stainless steel micro files to gently smooth the roughest, dry callused skin.

It first, it doesn't look like the kind of tool you would want to rub on your feet.

Some say it even looks like a cheese grater.

We asked Christina Colby, the spa coordinator at Sassy's Nail Spa to give the Ped Egg a try.

"It doesn't hurt," she said. "I can't really feel it. It doesn't tickle either."

We rapidly rubbing the Ped Egg back and forth but we don't get much skin.

A second attempt from a better angle only helped a little bit.

We figured out that the problem here is that Colby's feet were freshly washed, still a bit damp and without visible calluses.

Next up, we used a tester with a dryer foot with more calluses.

We quickly learn that the dryer the skin, the better the results.

We can see the calluses slowly disappear as the Ped Egg removes the dead skin.

However, spa owner Lynn Dang has a warning.

"It comes off rough not smooth," she said. "It's rough. You still have to be careful with this. It is metal."

That's why Dang says you won't find the Ped Egg in a professional spa.

"It's metal. It could cut," she said. "It could cause damage and it's against the law."

Also, even though the infomercial claims the Ped Egg is mess free, we disagree.

We found as many foot flakes floating around the Ped Egg as inside it.

In the end though, our testers agree, the Ped Egg really does seem to do the job.

"This is good for daily use, home maintenance," said Dang.

"I was extremely skeptical when I first saw it," said tester Mary Ann Gabriele, of Mt. Lebanon. "It looked like a cheese grater. Is it going to work? It did the job, surprisingly."

The Ped Egg claims to be so gentle it won't break a balloon.

We tested it and found that to be true.

We had the same results with a claim saying the Ped Egg smoothes the skin of an orange without removing it.

So for $10 is the Ped Egg worth the money?

We'd say yes.
