Pasta Express: Does It Really Do That?
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
You've seen it on television
the plastic gadget that claims to cook your pasta in just minutes. It's called the Pasta Express and the infomercial makes you think you want it -- makes you think you really need it. But what about those claims-- does it really do that? Who better to test a pasta cooker than a big Italian family that eats lots of it. "It's a very big part of our lives," said Daniela Pampena of Plum. "I'm in school now so I don't get to cook so much; but in the summer, I was in the kitchen all the time cooking pasta dishes, chicken. I'm always in the kitchen. I love it."
The Pampenas have all seen the commercial for Pasta Express, which is touted as the new quick and easy way to make perfect pasta. "I am intrigued. I'm anxious to see what happens."
After their first batch, though, the Pampenas were disappointed by the Pasta Express' performance on a spaghetti dinner.
Pampena says the Pasta Express left her pasta not quite done and gummy after seven minutes, so she increased the cooking time to eleven minutes. The result? "It's a little better. Not gummy. It's not that great."
There was more success when it came to asparagus. Pampena describes the asparagus made in the Pasta Express as perfect.
But does the Pasta Express live up to the hype?
While the Pampenas agree that it works well on asparagus, they give it a thumbs down on spaghetti -- saying it makes more work for something that's pretty simple to begin with. For more information, click on the following link:
