Does It Really Do That: Handy Switch
(KDKA)
For all those people who are tired of getting out of bed just to turn off the lights, the Handy Switch promises to be a wireless remote control for any lamp in your home.
But Does It Really Do That?
KDKA's Consumer Editor Yvonne Zanos put Handy Switch to the test with consumer Robin Johnson.
Our testers say the hardest part is trying to remove the product from the packaging.
They say they find the wireless lamp switch easy enough to assemble and it comes with a nine-volt battery.
But they also find that they are not sure about two screws that come in the packaging because the instructions say no tools are necessary.
When they start testing the power of the switch, Johnson finds that it works from not only a few feet away from the light, but as far away as from the house next door.
But at two houses away, the Handy Switch didn't work.
And as for the promise the that the product allows you to turn on the lights in your dark home while still in you car, our testers say it took two tries, but it did work.
But what about those screws in the package, Zanos reports that you can hang your new light switch on the wall with adhesive tape, or screw in the switch holder and remove the switch to use as a remote.
All in all, Johnson says the Handy Switch really does work and she would buy one.
Also, the Handy Switch is available in retail stores, which means no shipping and handling charges.
