FlavorWave Oven Deluxe: Does It Really Do That?

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The FlavorWave Oven promises to make cooking a breeze in your kitchen by eliminating thawing time.

The product's infomercial claims: "Imagine if you could start with fresh or frozen food and have an incredibly delicious mean in minutes with no hassle."

The oven claims to cook food in half the time a conventional oven would take because it cooks from the inside out.

It combines conductive heat, convection heat and the power of infrared waves to perfectly cook all of your meals up to fifty percent faster than your old fashioned oven.

Like most working moms, Lara Thomas shops ahead and freezes what she doesn't use right away.

That's why when she saw the infomercial for the FlavorWave Oven Deluxe, she was curious.

"Being a working mom, that time is critical," said Thomas. "When I hit the door, I want dinner to be prepared as quickly as possible."

But does it really do that?

We started off small with some frozen ground beef patties.

It cooks for 26 minutes, 13 minutes on each side.

So, it's not a big time saver.

But how does it taste?

"It's very good," said Thomas.

Next up, we try an 8 pound turkey breast.

We set the oven for one hour on each side.

But when it comes time to turn our turkey, it's not so easy to flip.

The turkey breast is misshapen and won't sit breast side up.

Also, the turkey ended up burned on top and not cooked fully on the inside.

Needless to say, the turkey gets a thumbs' down.

Later, we tried a three pound sirloin roast that was frozen solid.

Directions say we need 42 minutes on each side and that it will be ready to serve in an hour and a half as promised instead of three to four hours in the oven.

After 42 minutes, we flipped the roast but discover another problem.

The top of the oven is supposed to click into place and hold but it doesn't always hold.

The lid unlocks and lets go which is a potentially dangerous situation.

In one and a half hours, we have a roast that looks perfect.

How does it taste?

"That's good, Very good," said Thomas.

That's a definite thumbs' up for the roast.

However, when it comes to buying the FlavorWave Oven Deluxe for herself, Thomas says probably not even though it worked pretty well.

"I think having a microwave and an oven… I may not buy it," said Thomas. "If I didn't have one of those, I would definitely consider it."
