Channels Change For Some Comcast Customers
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
Some local cable television customers cried foul after flipping to a familiar channel, only to find it gone.
It turns out, Comcast switched some channels.
"We're just taking a small number of channels, delivering them digitally to our customers to make room for 13 new channels and 11 new HD channels," Bob Grove, a spokesperson for Comcast, said.
The new channels are in response to customer demands and a technical need.
"The space that one analog channel takes up on our network we can use that space to deliver 10 channels digitally or three channels in HD," Grove said.
For those with digital cable boxes already, it means finding a few familiar channels in new places. But for those without set top boxes, it means the channels seem to disappear.
"We have really been very proactive about talking to all of our customers, not only taking out lots of advertisements about this but also sending direct mail right to the home," Grove said.
Elsie Meyer, of Ross Township, read the notice in the mail from Comcast so she wasn't concerned.
"I assumed they were making changes to the channels and in order for us to get those channels we were paying for we would have to hook something up," she said.
She called Comcast and the company sent a box to her home.
"That gives you all the linear channels on digital starter level of service," Grove explained. "You're not only going to see those channels that you can't find this morning but you're going to get up to 26 additional channels."
