Clever Clasp: Does It Really Do That?
by Yvonne Zanos
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
Fastening and unfastening jewelry can be a hassle, but the Clever Clasp promises to make putting on and taking off jewelry a snap.
But does it really do that?
To put it to the test, KDKA's Consumer Editor Yvonne Zanos took Clever Clasp to a store in Sewickley, called Soho, where they sell lots of jewelry.
Clever Clasp uses magnets, which attach to each end of a piece of jewelry, to fasten it together.
A set of four clasps -- two in silver and two in gold -- costs about $10.
With a few twists the magnets can be screwed together so the ends won't come apart until they are taken apart.
For necklaces, the Clever Clasp tested well with several different varieties, from delicate pieces to the bigger pieces with heavy stones accents.
However, using the Clever Clasp with bracelets posed a few problems.
When the Clever Clasp is added to the average bracelet, which is about seven inches, the length is extended to about eight inches.
And on some bracelets, the magnets just don't work well with the design.
So what's the final verdict on the Clever Clasp?
"I think 98 percent of what it says it does, it does," says consumer, Tracey Georgino, of Sewickley. "The only thing that it doesn't do is bracelets."
"It's a little tough with bracelets, but I'd give it a thumbs up for the price," says Soho's owner, Judy Bailey.
