Outlet Shoppers Line Up For Early Deals

SOUTH STRABANE TWP. (KDKA) ― Today is Black Friday, one of the busiest shopping days of the year.

Many places opened at midnight and people were already lined up in the cold waiting to take advantage of those good deals.

It's the post-Thanksgiving tradition for thousands of people and local malls are absolutely packed.

The bargain hunters are out in full force.

Shopping activity has been strong all night and well into the early part of the day at Tanger Outlets in Washington County.

A long line of anxious shoppers waited for the clock to strike midnight at Tanger Outlets.

Many came to fulfill their Christmas lists.

Many shoppers would leave with bags loaded with merchandise purchased with deep discounts.

"I think the discounts help a lot especially this time of year because the Tommy store was 50 percent off everything in the store," said shopper Jennifer Kerry. "In this economy, that helps."

"I think it helps a lot," said shopper Daphne Scuorzo. "We got Coach purses for practically really cheap. And they're real and they are very good."

This is the first holiday shopping season for the newly opened Tanger Outlets, which opened in September.

The mall was hoping discounts and sales would help attract thousands over the holiday shopping season.

"At times like this when the economy is a little tough, people were definitely looking for bargains and that's what we have here because you're trying to stretch your dollar as far as you can get," said Tanger Outlets' Frank Salucci. "When you have savings from 25, 50, 70 percent off and then the extra discounts that we had overnight with the specials and going in through the weekend, people were looking to get a bargain and get more for their buck."

The Tanger Outlet manager says shopper turnout has exceeded their expectations and the bargains and discounts will continue throughout the holiday discount season.
