New Trial To Start For '99 Double Murder Suspect

WASHINGTON, PA (KDKA) ― A man convicted of killing two men in Ohio had the conviction thrown out and now he faces a new trial in Pennsylvania.

"We try to bury our loved ones and the criminal justice system keeps digging them up," says Kathleen O'Hara, the mother of victim Aaron Land.

She's facing the prospect of sitting through a new homicide trial for defendant Terrell Yarbrough.

Yarbrough was convicted and sentenced to death in the shooting death of Land and Brian Muha - two Franciscan University students in 1999.

The Ohio Supreme Court threw out that sentence ruling that Yarbrough and co-defendant Nathan Herring should be tried in Pennsylvania for the homicides.

Jury selection for Yarbrough began Wednesday afternoon.

When Washington County Judge John DiSalle asked a pool of 166 potential jurors if they had heard of the case, nearly half said they had - even though the case is 10 years old.

Jury selection is expected to end and testimony is expected to begin next week.

O'Hara plans to travel to Washington County from her home in Philadelphia to observe the trial.
