Panthers Slow Navy Offense For 27-14 Victory
PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) ―
Pitt was able to slow that tricky Navy offense to just over 200 yards allowed while forcing six turnovers.
And the Panthers won 27-14 over the Midshipmen Saturday evening.
Navy, which led the nation in rushing the last four seasons, was never able to get much offense going and was held to 129 yards on the ground, only 3 yards more than Pitt.
Navy's Ricky Dobbs was 6 of 21 for 89 yards, with 21 yards rushing.
For the Panthers, Bill Stull went 17 of 24 for 245 yards, while Dion Lewis and Ray Graham each scored a touchdown.
But when the game started, Pitt fans found out that their leader on defense, Adam Gunn, would not be able play due to an injury he suffered at practice this week
So, the starting assignment went to the freshman, Dan Mason, from Penn Hills.
Pitt has now improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2000, and only the fourth time since former star Dan Marino's senior season in 1982.
Next Saturday, the Panthers head to Raleigh to take on NC State.
