Penn St. Beats Northwestern With 4th Quarter Surge

EVANSTON, Ill. (KDKA/AP) ― The Nittany Lions scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to defeat Northwestern 34-13 Saturday.

Penn State trailed 10-3 in the second quarter when Northwestern quarterback Mike Kafka was forced out with a leg injury.

And at the half, the Nittany Lions were still behind 13-10.

But behind the strong running of Evan Royster, Penn State was able to move in for the go-ahead touchdown early in the final quarter on a 3-yard run that made it 20-13.

Also, Daryll Clark threw a 53-yard touchdown pass to Derek Moye and Royster broke off a 69-yard scoring run to highlight a fourth-quarter surge that took 3 minutes, 40 seconds.

The win gives coach Joe Paterno his 391st.
