Mountaineers Struggle In 17-9 Win Over Louisville
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (KDKA/AP) ―
The West Virginia University Mountaineers managed a 17-9 win over Louisville Saturday afternoon.
The Mountaineers were outgained 301-273, but were still able to improve to 6-0 at home.
WVU's Jarrett Brown threw an 8-yard scoring pass to Jock Sanders just before halftime.
Brown hurt his right leg in the fourth quarter but sat out only one play, and running back Noel Devine played sparingly after tweaking an ankle late in the first half.
Devine was limited to 56 yards on 13 carries to surpass 1,000 yards for the second straight season.
Also, Tavon Austin had a nine yard touchdown run in the third quarter for the Mountaineers.
Meanwhile, Louisville fell to 0-5 on the road. Redshirt freshman Will Stein went 14-for-26 in his first road start, but was sacked five times.
Cardinals' kicker Chris Philpott made field goals of 37, 44 and 29 yards.
Next up, the Mountaineers head to Cincinnati for a game Friday, Nov. 13.
